Season’s greetings and warm wishes for 2025
As 2024 draws to a close, we want to extend heartfelt gratitude to all our Branches for their dedication and tireless efforts this year. Your steadfast commitment continues to make the Legion strong so we can serve Veterans, their families, and our communities in meaningful ways. Your efforts embody the spirit of our mission, and we are incredibly grateful for your impact.
As we move into the year ahead, we look forward to continuing our efforts uniting Legion’s 260,000+ members for Veterans and Remembrance, and welcoming new members to join in our mission. Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a New Year filled with peace and happiness.
Get to know your Senior Elected Officers
At a national level, the Dominion Executive Council (DEC) serves as the governing body of The Royal Canadian Legion, responsible for setting positions and policies. The DEC is made up of the Dominion President and Senior Elected Officers, chosen by the membership during the Dominion Convention. It also includes the Presidents of each Provincial Command and Special Section.

Update on Online Membership Application Resolution
The following is an update on the Online Membership Application Resolution and the Dominion Membership Committee Recommendation passed at DEC on November 23, 2024
At the 49th Dominion Convention in August 2024, the following resolution was passed:
That the online application be revised so that proof of service be provided for Ordinary Membership and proof of relationship be provided for Associate Membership.
At the Dominion Executive Council (DEC) meeting on November 23, 2024, the following Dominion Membership Committee Recommendation was approved and passed:
Dominion Membership Committee Recommendation
In reference to Dominion Convention Resolution #307 – Online Membership Application ON3, passed at the 49th Dominion Convention, the Dominion Membership Committee, based on the advice of legal counsel, recommended that the resolution should not be implemented. Consequently, it was recommended the Dominion President and DEC will follow Section 417 of the General Bylaws in making their decision.
Legal Counsel Review and Recommendations
Legal counsel reviewed the resolution and identified several significant concerns, including:
  1. Inability to verify service numbers accurately.
  2. Privacy risks associated with collecting and storing sensitive information, such as service numbers, which may overlap with SIN numbers issued from 1960 to 1980.
  3. Additional risks related to Branches accessing personal information through the membership portal.
Following on the above legal review, their recommendation is as follows:
  • Avoid collecting highly sensitive information which includes service numbers.
  • Retain the digital attestation checkbox where applicants affirm that the information they provide is true to the best of their knowledge, which is already part of the online application process.
Key Implementation Note
In alignment of these recommendations, service numbers will not be collected as part of the membership application process. These updates aim to enhance the application process while maintaining privacy and legal compliance.
If you have questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact Member Services at membership@legion.ca or 855‑330‑3344.

Corporate Supporters are crucial to the Poppy Campaign
Branches and Commands, alongside local and national corporate supporters, helped bring Poppies to every corner of the country during the 2024 Poppy Campaign. Nearly 40 national corporate supporters contributed to its success!
Thanks to corporate contactless and point‑of‑sale systems, RBC’s Pay Tribute tap‑enabled donation Poppy boxes raised $706,327, with funds to be returned to participating Legion Branches by year-end. Since 2020, the Pay Tribute program has generated over $1.7M for local Branch Poppy Trust Funds.
Starbucks’ point‑of‑sale support also raised $124,702.90 this year, bringing their total contributions to over $334K since 2022, with all funds going to Branch Poppy Trust Funds.
The 2024 Campaign also introduced a pilot project collaboration. 21,390 Poppies were distributed through the Legion storefront on Amazon.ca, allowing Poppies to reach more Canadians.
Thank you to all Branches for engaging your local businesses and organizations in Remembrance and helping ensure more Canadians can access Poppies wherever they may live.
