Mailchimp Question and Answers
Importing member emails
The Legion partnered with Mailchimp to make is easier to share member email information between Mailchimp and the Legion national member database.
Branches can export the "Branch - Active and Dormant Member Email List" report of member emails from the Legion Member Services Website, and then import that into Mailchimp through a custom copy-and-paste tool. Branches also can export their Mailchimp report and send that to Member Services to update emails in the Legion database.
Your Membership Chair can reach out to Legion Member Services if they need assistance in exporting the Legion report.
Using the @legion.ca Branch email
Branches are required to use their Branch 00-000@legion.ca email account on their Mailchimp profile to access the free trial and receive the 15% nonprofit discount.
While Branches have the option to use their own Branch email address in the 'From' field of their email template, some email addresses (such as gmail accounts) run the risk of that email getting stopped in spam filters. We recommend you use the @legion.ca email as your 'From' address, and add your Branch email address in the header and footer to encourage replies to those addresses.
Direct replies to a Branch email with @legion.ca in the 'From' field will go to that email address. There also is a section within your Mailchimp account to view replies, if you cannot check replies at the @legion.ca email.
Your Branch Membership Chair has access to the @legion.ca email account. If they are not aware of this email, please have them reach out to Legion Member Services at 855-330-3344.
If the person managing the Mailchimp account does not have access to the @legion.ca email, the person with access may need to assist in checking the email when the MailChimp account is created to verify the email address and confirm the non-profit discount is applied. Once the discount is applied, you can change the Mailchimp account to a different email address.
Legion templates
Currently, a Legion newsletter template is available (in English and in French) for any Legion Branch with a Mailchimp account to access. To access the templates, click on the links in the
Step #4
.
The Legion Marketing Department will inform Branches of any new templates developed, through the all-Branch Dispatch monthly emails.
Privacy and CASL Compliance
Branches and anyone accessing private member information must adhere to all Canadian privacy laws and anti-spam legislation.
