Marking the 25th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
The Royal Canadian Legion joined Veterans Affairs Canada in Ottawa on May 28, 2025 to commemorate a special milestone. It marked 25 years since a Canadian unknown soldier was interred in the final resting place at the National War Memorial on the same date in the year 2000. The Legion Grand President joined the Governor General and other dignitaries in remembrance of this profound occasion.

PR Tip of the Month:
Share story ideas with media
It’s a good idea to share good story ideas with your local media regularly. Even if they can’t do the story today, they might be able to tomorrow. Offer your assistance and, if a story involves specific community members or branch volunteers, make sure in advance that they are willing to participate.

Calendar
Your Legion calendar
July 1, 2025 marks the 109th anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel — a solemn day of remembrance in Newfoundland and Labrador, where nearly an entire generation was lost in moments. Last year, through the efforts of Legion Newfoundland and Labrador Command, an unknown soldier from that tragic battle was finally brought home and laid to rest with honour at the Newfoundland National War Memorial — a powerful homecoming more than a century in the making.

VICTORY:
Canada and the end of WW Il
The postwar story of victory over the Axis powers in 1945 was markedly different than the one written after the First World War ended in 1918. Justice for
WW Il criminals was swift and decisive, but it was humanitarian relief, reconstruction and reconciliation in Japan and on a devastated continent of Europe, not retribution, that forged a lasting legacy through an emerging Cold War and beyond.
