Branches to lower flags on April 9 for Vimy Ridge Day
On April 9, 2025, The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Headquarters and over 1,350 Branches will lower their flags to half-mast in remembrance of those who fell during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. This marks the 108th anniversary of the pivotal 1917 battle, where more than 3,500 Canadians lost their lives and nearly 7,000 were wounded.
All Legion Branches will fly their flags at half mast on April 9th from sunrise to sunset to commemorate their service and sacrifices.
Showing support for military children
April is Canada's Month of the Military Child, a time to honour and recognize the resilience and sacrifices of children in military families. These young individuals often experience unique challenges, such as frequent moves and the absence of a parent due to deployments. Legion Branches can celebrate by organizing family-friendly activities and offering special recognition to show support for military children.
Plans underway for the Legion’s 100th anniversary
The Royal Canadian Legion turns 100 next year! Legion Headquarters is gearing up for a full year of celebrations. Initial campaign information was sent to Branches earlier this month. Stay tuned for more to come!

Automated telemarketing renewal calling campaign
Canada Direct will run an automated campaign beginning March 5th, uploading non-renewed member phone numbers into its predictive dialing software. The campaign will run as follows:
  • We have approximately 28,000 Canadian phone numbers of the current 48,000 unrenewed members.
  • A pre-recorded phone message will remind members to renew their Legion membership.
Listen to the recordings: for English members ‣ | for French members ‣
  • Members can transfer to speak to an Agent and pay directly over the phone with a credit card. If the member is not home, a message will be left encouraging them to renew.
The campaign is expected to last until end of May.

PR Tip of the Month:
Work with a collective mentality: “We” are the Legion
It’s helpful to keep in mind that whatever we do in PR – good or mistakenly - reflects upon the Legion nationally and locally. We are all in this together and the public sees projects as the Legion, no matter who is leading them.

LIBERATION!: Canada and the WW II fight to free the Netherlands
In the fall of 1944, Canadian troops led bitter fighting to secure access to the critical port of Antwerp, freeing the Scheldt estuary and the approaches to a key supply hub as Allied forces prepared to enter Germany and bring the Second World War to an end.
The Scheldt victory also liberated a sliver of the occupied Netherlands, but more epic combat lay ahead. Ultimately, the year 1945 will prove a happy one, as the sufferings of the Dutch populace, ravaged by almost five years of hardship and a bitterly cold winter of starvation, are brought to a bloody end.
