The Legion welcomes all Veterans
One of the six objectives of the Legion’s Strategic Plan is creating a culture that fosters core Legion values and promotes a welcoming environment. In order to properly support Canada’s Veteran community, it is crucial that the Legion be a welcoming place for every Veteran and their family.
As Canada’s largest Veteran support organization, it is our duty to support all generations of Veteran — no matter where, when or how they served.
“A Veteran is a Veteran is a Veteran… As long as you’ve signed on the dotted line and you’ve served our country, we’re there to help you. It doesn’t matter when you served, whether you served during a conflict or spent the entire time in Canada.”
– Ray McInnis, Director of Veteran Services
Welcome Veterans to your Branch
Serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP new to the Legion are eligible for a free one-year membership to help them get to know our organization.
Membership registration is completed through Dominion Command, and members can transfer to a local Branch afterwards. A new poster is available to download to help Branches welcome new Veteran members and promote the one-year free memberships.

Faces to Graves, a remembrance project based in the Netherlands, is a joint tribute by the three Canadian war cemeteries: Bergen op Zoom, Groesbeek and Holten. The project is seeking photos and stories to create a Digital Monument to the soldiers buried at those cemeteries.

PR Tip of the Month
Acronyms! Define them.
If you use acronyms in your public communications, interviews or speeches, always spell/speak them in full first, and then offer the short version. Examples:
  • Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) is working on reducing wait times for handling claims.
  • In a speech: “Veterans Affairs Canada or VAC, is working to reduce wait times for handling claims.”
Have questions or need advice? Contact your Command Public Relations Officer or Nujma Bond, Dominion Command Communications at nbond@legion.ca.

Many preprinted promotional materials are also available for free from Legion Supply.
